When my husband and I got married, we told the officiant that we were NOT going to write personalized vows. We wanted the officiant to recite the traditional vows and we would repeat them. Guess what happened next?
When it came time for that part of the ceremony, the officiant announced in front of everyone that we would, in fact, now say our personalized vows. We stood there for a few seconds just shocked. I wasn’t prepared! My husband took the microphone and started talking off the cuff. We ended up vowing to love each other, listen to each other, and to stand by each other whether “the stock market is up or down.” Still pretty applicable after all these years.
